Strike Out

There was a time when she denounced the way "a handful of angry, petty, spiteful folks" took our conversations to a new low.  But she just posted a video of an angry, petty, spiteful woman who both denounced the likely Democratic nominee as "an inadequate black male" and offered her vote to John McCain (incidentally, I was sitting just a few seats from her, and believe me when I tell you her meltdown was more than a moment--it was almost an hour of continual disruptions before she was ejected and shown to the cameras).

She once decried "the venomous attacks and lies about fellow Democrats" as "spiteful and vindictive behavior" that would make it difficult to "reunite our party" (apparently that was once a goal of hers).  But she just accused our likely nominee of orchestrating elections fraud in Texas without any real sourcing, and directly claimed "he's using every trick he can think of to disenfranchise voters."

She proudly called herself "a Yellow-Dog-Democrat and a progressive" once upon a time.  Can anyone remember the last time she said anything about the man who's undeniably the Greater of Two Evils--no matter which Democrat you support--John McCain?

Come to think of it, can anyone remember her saying word one about the blatant "abuse and anger" of other posters who support her candidate, or those who (like herself) "distort [Obama's] record without any fear of consequence or retribution" on this site?

I've defended her both here (as recently as this morning!) and on the Great Orange Satan (which once led her to call me a "wonderful person").  No more.

She once noted that "good writers can't survive" in an "ugly and destructive" atmosphere, adding that "Democrats shouldn't have to put up with that from fellow Democrats."

But her diaries have become pastiches of the very sort of blogging that she once decried, and she now is guilty of nearly every sin she once found so deplorable as to cause her to abandon another site wholesale.  I used to think that Hillary supporters needed at least one diary a day where they could share positive news about their candidate and discuss their efforts in peace, and that her diaries should essentially be demilitarized zones, but her tone and essence have devolved into, well, something "ugly and destructive".

The Democratic nomination race is over, and pretending otherwise does nothing but help John McCain.  And even if the nomination were still up for grabs (which, please understand, it is not), the tactics employed and advocated by many Clinton supporters on this site would guarantee a fractured party without actually advancing Clinton's chances--the height of political folly, bordering on political suicide.

At some point, you just have to say "enough."

So I'm calling for a strike of her diaries, and for the American Federation of Concerned Bloggers to review its policies and determine if the shameful and repeated displays we've seen on this site from prominent members like her are in keeping with the organizing principles of the Federation.

And then I suggest everyone take a deep breath, stop taking themselves so damn seriously, and start working to beat the only candidate left who thinks Roe v. Wade should be overturned, that the Iraq War should continue in perpetuity, that mortgage industry lobbyists should design our crisis recovery plan, and who sees George W. Bush as a big ol' cuddly teddy bear.

The Republicans can't beat us.  Only we can.  And if we don't stop the bullshit that has been pervasive ever since the Great Walkout of '08, we'll probably do just that.

Re: Strike Out (none / 0)

I don't see how this is productive.  If people don't shape up in the next few weeks, I trust the mods will do what's necessary.

Re: Strike Out (none / 0)

I agree....  although, the line about the Republicans cannot beat us, only we can beat us has a ring of truth to it...

McCain/Palin... even scarier than Bush/Cheney... and that's saying something!

Re: Strike Out (none / 0)

This is the first diary I've written here in over a year.  The reason behind it is that I was reading Wolcott's VF article and was reminded of the infamous "Strike" post over on DailyKos.  So I reread it, and I realized the end result has been not to foster an environment of civil discussion and debate, but to create a near-exact mirror image of the caricature that alegre presented of dKos.

Her last two posts have been to accuse Obama of fraud and to promote a clip from Neil Cavuto highlighting one of the most embarrassing moments I've ever witnessed.  Given the fact that I've defended alegre numerous times in the past, and given that her conduct is inexcusable, I felt I should follow the standard demanded of public figures these days by denouncing and rejecting someone I once associated with willingly once her behavior went beyond the pale.

I don't know if this is productive: in point of fact, I doubt it will be.  But I know that whatever comes next from her is likely to be as counterproductive as most of her recent work, and I wanted to make a point of calling her out for becoming that which she once so passionately decried.

Re: Strike Out (none / 0)

Sadly AFCB, American Federation of Concerned Bloggers, seems to have devolved into nothing more than A Few Cry Babies.

Re: Strike Out (none / 0)

Don't sweat it.  It's over.   Leave the Clinton supporters alone so they can come to grips with the reality.

I think your piece is titled very appropriately.

Not about the primary, but about your own inability to understand the point of things, or lack thereof.

Re: Strike Out (none / 0)

you should delete your own diary.  You aren't supposed to call out another diarist like that (or so I thought)

Re: Strike Out (2.00 / 2)

Bobswern had a whole diary of calling people out- they were all Obama supporters, though, so it seems like the mods are paying fast and loose with that rule.

Normally, though, I'd agree with you anyway, lest we be subject to the two rights = wrong rule, but Alegre is a glaring exception to this. She's nothing more than a troll, period- hell, look at you, for example! You're an example of what I'd consider a real Clinton supporter. You fight for your candidate, but you back it up- if I make a comment about what I view to be an error in a diary you write, I can expect you to back it up.

Alegre? Not so much, which is probably good for her, or her credibility would have been shot long ago. She delves into ad hominem and lets the other, more virulent Clinton supporters take the heat for her.

Unfortunately for her, she's lost all credibility as a blogger, and will be nothing more than a small footnote in some future four-hundred page followup to Crashing the Gate.

Serious question- Is This Snark?
